Food trends over the years have shown restaurant goers have become discerning with the authenticity of their restaurant experiences. The last 20 years or so has seen an increase in far eastern food with most towns having a Thai restaurant and even a Japanese restaurant. One of the latest trends is takeaway food has been that of Japanese cuisine and one such town that has seen a growth in Japanese cuisine is Newcastle.

Authentic and traditional Japanese food is probably the healthiest and for some people the most delicious cuisine in the world. For those of us who enjoy Japanese food, food like tofu, tempura, sushi, green tea and soba are all now freely available across the world.
Japanese food is not only healthy but also delicious. Edamame are steamed soybeans that are salted and left in the pod. This is a very popular dish because it is high in protein and low in calories but also very tasty. Yakotori is also popular and consists of grilled lean meat and vegetables – again high in protein and nutrient rich thanks to the vegetables.

Many takeaways offer a good choice of Japanese food on their menus including soup. A favourite is miso soup which is a light broth created from a soy paste with scallions and tofu. Another popular soup choice is Udon noodle soup which is a broth of noodles, tofu, vegetables and shiitake mushrooms. This soup is very healthy as well as filling.
Sushi is still the main meal when it comes to Japanese food. Sushi is raw fish but Sushi actually refers to the white rice mixed with rice vinegar and some sugar. Traditional sushi dishes served in most restaurants include:
Nigiri which is fish draped over balls of rice.
Maki which is fish wrapped in seaweed and rice and then cut into pieces.
Temaki is fish and rice wrapped up in a seaweed cone.
Sashimi is raw fish served without rice.
